Berkley Public Safety began as a separate Police and Fire department in 1924. For 60 years Berkley continued to grow and expand and in 1984, the Police and Fire merged so that all officers were crossed trained in both fields becoming "PUBLIC SAFETY OFFICERS". Don't let the Police car fool you, because inside is a highly trained Police Officer, Fire Fighter and Medical First Responder.
Public Safety Officers or "PSO's" work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year to provide excellent Police and Fire coverage for our community.
In 2016, Berkley Public Safety handled 15,000 calls for service, which included 5000 traffic incidents, 3000 medicals, 100 fire runs, and 2500 generic requests for police or fire service. There were 350 arrests, including 150 intoxicated drivers.
Berkley Public Safety is dedicated to proactive Law Enforcement, trained and prepared Fire Service as well as Community Involvement in all we do.
