In the 1920's Berkley created its first local fire department. Volunteers from around the community farms came together to make sure they had the ability to help those in need during a fire emergency. From 1924 until 1984, the Fire Department was separate from the Police, but ran out of the old Police/Fire Station. In 1984, both Police and Fire merged to become Berkley Public Safety and officers became crossed training in both fields.
